Five Bac Water Mixing Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Shaking is the one almost everybody gets wrong, and it is the one that costs you the compound.
The five that come up repeatedly are shaking the vial, jetting the water straight onto the powder, reusing a needle, skipping the label, and guessing the volume. The first is the most common and the most expensive.
Why is shaking the worst of the five?
Because it damages the thing you just paid for. Peptides are long, folded molecules held together far more delicately than a salt or a sugar, and the shear forces in a shaken vial can break them apart. Nothing about shaking dissolves the powder faster.
Add the water, set the vial down, and let it go into solution on its own. Swirl gently if it needs help after a few minutes.
Why does the angle of the needle matter?
A stream of water fired directly into the powder does the same mechanical damage as shaking, just in one concentrated burst. Angle the needle so the liquid runs down the inside wall of the vial and pools underneath the powder instead of hitting it.
What goes wrong with reusing a needle?
Every pass through a rubber stopper dulls the point and can carry a core of rubber into the vial. A second pass with the same needle also reintroduces whatever it touched in between. The preservative suppresses growth; it is not there to compensate for a dirty needle.
Fresh sterile needle every time, and wipe the stopper with an alcohol pad before each puncture.
What happens if you skip the label?

Why does guessing the volume matter so much?
Because the volume you add is the only thing that sets the concentration, and every measurement you take afterwards depends on it. Guessing at the start means every draw after that is wrong by the same proportion.

- How long should a vial take to dissolve on its own?
- Most go clear within one to five minutes at room temperature. A vial still showing solid material after fifteen minutes usually means the powder was cold or the water pooled away from it, not that it needs shaking.
- Does it matter which vial you puncture first?
- Draw the bac water first, then puncture the powder vial once with the loaded syringe. That way the powder vial takes one puncture instead of two and nothing is drawn back out of it.
- What is coring and how do you avoid it?
- Coring is a small disc of rubber punched out of the stopper and dropped into the vial by a dull or badly angled needle. A fresh sharp needle inserted at 90 degrees avoids it almost entirely.
- Can you fix a vial you already shook?
- There is no way to reverse it and no way to inspect for it, which is why the advice is prevention rather than repair. A single gentle shake is unlikely to matter; vigorous shaking is not worth the gamble.
